The SEO Guide To Having An Excellent Website Design That Ranks High In The Search Engines

There are millions of sites on the Internet and thousands upon thousands are being setup and added into the fray everyday. How does your website stand-out from the crowd? Having a professionally-done website design with excellent graphics is important but visitors have to land first on your website before they get to enjoy your masterpiece design. For you to succeed, you need a lot of visitors and this can only be achieved if you do SEO on your website design.

WHAT IS SEO? According to Wikipedia, SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is defined as the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a website from search engines via "natural" or "organic" search results for targeted keywords. Generally, SEO is classified into three major steps: Keyword Research, On-Page Optimization, and Off-Page Optimization. To improve Search Engine visibility, these steps are repeatedly done regularly until results of the SEO efforts are realized.

KEYWORD RESEARCH Keyword research refers to the identification of targeted keywords by comparing the number of searches against the competition. The ideal keyword for any SEO campaign is a keyword with high search volume but low number of competing webpages. This relationship is usually expressed in KEI, which is called Keyword Effectiveness Index. During your initial keyword research, you would like to identify keywords with high KEIs and focus your efforts on keywords showing good to great potential.

ON-PAGE OPTIMIZATION On-page optimization is the process of optimizing the webpages to make it search-engine friendly. There are many elements and considerations involved in on-page optimization. But I usually focus on four of these elements: Page Titles, Meta Tags, Robot Walk-Thru and Site Contents. Make sure your page titles, meta tags and site contents contain your targeted keywords. Also ensure that there are no road blocks facing the search engine robots when they finally visit your site. These roadblocks come in the form of Javascript, Flash, protected pages, and the likes. FOcus on these four elements and you will soon see your rankings improve.

OFF-PAGE OPTIMIZATION Off-page optimization is simlply link building. Link building is obtaining relevant inbound links from other websites related to your niche. Focus on getting quality inbound links so the Search Engines will love your website. Get inbound links for your home page and your other inner pages. Balance the inbound links by varying the anchor text links. Obtain links from search engine directories, article directories, blogs, forums, social media and networking sites, etc. Unlike on-page optimization, there is no limit on the number of quality inbound links you can get. The more links you get, the better for your website in terms of ranking.

When you go into any business, you are expected to be an expert or at least skilled in whatever business or service your website provides. But many entrepreneurs when faced with designing a website and optimizing the website for the Search Engines usually face formidable technical obstacles. Website design and SEO is not easy for the non-technical people. Rather than learn all the complexities, it is adviseable to look for a company who specializes in these fields. Leave the hard work and technical details to the professionals. As an entrepreneur, all you have to do is find a firm which can develop excellent website design and rank that site high in the search engines.
